Welcome, Dr. Greengold
It has come to our attention—and we hope yours too—that there is a lot of great talent on our editorial board. Thus, we have decided to add a new recurring feature—which we hope will be informative without coming across as inordinately self-promotional—designed to let you get to know these people a little bit better. For those of you who gaze admiringly at the listing of our editorial board members every month and wonder (a) what do these titles and affiliations really mean? (b) what do these people have to do with P&T committees? and (c) why did these people decide to join our editorial board?, we hope that this monthly spotlight will satisfy your curiosity. (It’s also a chance to see a snapshot of a person without having to wade through his or her 30- or 50-page CV.)
This month we are pleased to introduce our newest board member, Nancy L. Greengold, MD, MBA. Dr. Greengold is a board-certified internist and Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Tools at Wolters Kluwer Health. The Clinical Tools division includes the companies Clineanswers, Facts & Comparisons, Medi-Span, and Skolar. She is also Associate Director of Applied Health Services Research at Cedars-Sinai Health System in Los Angeles and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. She is co-chair of the P&T committee at Cedars-Sinai. suhagra
Before I continue plagiarizing her bio-sketch (which she said I could do), I’ll interrupt at this point and give you the inside scoop on how she heard about our editor-in-chief, Dr. David Nash.
“I first saw David Nash on a podium at Cedars-Sinai and was impressed by what a wonderful communicator he is,” Dr. Greengold says. “He had the audience absolutely captivated. After that, I began to notice David’s name everywhere—except on billboards and bus benches! I have been a fan of P&T Journal, in general, and David’s editorials, in particular, since joining our hospital’s P&T committee.”
Back to my plagiarizing. After her graduation from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, Dr. Greengold completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Cedars-Sinai Health System. She subsequently did a one-year fellowship in Applied Health Services Research at Cedars-Sinai and then joined the Department of Applied Health Services Research as Associate Director.
In June 1996, Dr. Greengold was one of the co-founders of Zynx Health Incorporated, a subsidiary of Cedars-Sinai. She served as Chief Medical Officer and Senior VP, Clinical Content for Zynx until its sale to Cerner Corporation in 2002.

Dr. Greengold has lectured extensively on the subjects of evidence-based medicine, outcomes research, and clinical decision support systems. She has published articles and editorials on evidence-based clinical guidelines and quality improvement. Dr. Greengold and colleagues at Cedars-Sinai recently received a grant from the National Patient Safety Foundation to study medication administration errors in the hospital setting. She currently serves on the editorial advisory boards of three peer-reviewed health care journals in addition to her role on P&T.
Besides her admiration for Dr. Nash, why did she decide to join the editorial board?
“The journal deals honestly and comprehensively with many of the issues that we address on our committee. We all face tremendous challenges—trying to balance the realities of our tough economic times and professional staff shortages with the burgeoning release of new drugs and new technologies.”
Another reason that Dr. Greengold decided to become involved with P&T has to do with her long-time interest in the publishing business.
“In another life . . . I was a managing editor of health care trade publications for several years prior to entering medical school. I feel as if I have come full circle, since I’m now employed by a large international publisher, Wolters Kluwer, and our goal is to bring evidence-based disease and drug information to clinicians at the point of care.”
